Where can I get Windows 8 drivers for my switchable graphics enabled laptop?

AMD recommends that graphics drivers be obtained from the laptop manufacturer. KB article GPU-28041 helps explain why it may be necessary to use the driver that is provided by the laptop manufacturer.

However, AMD does offer generic laptop graphics drivers for compatible AMD Mobility Radeon HD Series products. AMD Mobility Radeon drivers can be found by visiting AMD's driver hub.

Where can I find drivers for the AMD Mobility Radeon™ HD 2000, 3000, and 4000 Series graphics cards using Windows 8?

AMD provides a generic driver for compatible laptops using Windows® 8 with support for AMD Mobility Radeon HD2000, 3000 and 4000 Series graphics cards. The driver is limited to WDDM 1.1 functionality. To dowload this driver, select from the options below:

NOTE: For laptops that are not compatible, the installation of the driver will fail and display an error message that states, "no compatible hardware was found." KB article GPU-28041 helps to explain why it may be necessary to use the driver that is provided by the laptop manufacturer.

Do I need to configure anything in the AMD Catalyst™ Control Center after installing the Windows 8 driver for my Switchable Graphics enabled laptop?

The Switchable Graphics page in the AMD Catalyst™ Control Center offers a variety of settings to delegate graphics responsibilities to a specific GPU.  The settings provided may differ between laptop manufacturers and their implementation of the technology.

Settings include:

  1. Choosing a switchable graphics method (Dynamic or Fixed)
    • Select the graphics processor based on application needs (Dynamic)
    • Select the graphics processor manually or based on power source (Fixed)
  2. Assigning applications to GPUs
    • Specify which GPU is best suited for 3D and video applications found in the list.
  3. Manually selecting a GPU
    • Delegate all graphics processing tasks to a specific GPU
  4. Automatically switching GPUs based on power source
    • Configure the laptop so that it automatically uses the power-saving GPU when the laptop is running off the battery and the high-performance GPU when the laptop is plugged in (AC Power).
Where can I find Apple Boot Camp drivers for Windows 8?

The Apple Boot Camp drivers are available on the Mac OS X Leopard installation disc, or are available to download from http://www.Apple.com/support/bootcamp/.  AMD does not provide an Apple Boot Camp driver for Windows 8. Please contact Apple to confirm Windows 8 driver availability for your Apple product.
