737-31849: Radeon™ HD 3870 X2 and Radeon™ HD 4870 X2 Series: The screen turns black during driver installation

Symptoms:
The screen turns black during driver installation

Please note that periodic flickering of the screen during driver installation is normal. However if a screen turns black for an extended period of time (more than 1 min) follow the steps below.


Resolution:
Leave the system ON for at least 20 minutes. After 20 minutes re-start the system.
In some cases (older systems) 20 minutes might not be enough to install the drivers. In this case, ensure that the hard drive has stopped spinning (verified by sound, or the in-frequent blinking of the HDD LED in the front panel )
To restart your system, press the reset key on your system or if no reset key is available hold the Power button until the system shuts down. Then press it again to Power the system back up.  Do NOT disconnect the power at any point during this process.
