Customers have received the error message in a variety of system configurations. The common system denominators identified are Windows Vista (32 or 64 bit) and an overclocked processor. Within an AMD configured system, it seems to be observed more commonly with quad-core and dual-core products.
The following recommendations can help resolve the issue:
- Set system hardware devices to their default settings
- Update the motherboard's BIOS with the latest revision provided by the motherboard manufacturer
- Update system hardware / software drivers
- When applicable, use only Windows Hardware Quality Laboratories (WHQL) certified drivers for all system devices.
- If the error occurred after a Windows update, refer to the windows update history and remove any recent updates
- Ensure the power supply meets the overall power requirements of the system.
- To test whether the power supply is at fault, configure the system with a basic configuration of: motherboard, processor, processor fan, graphics card/integrated graphics (when applicable), and one hard drive containing an operating system
- If the system works properly, add additional devices one at a time
- If the error is power supply related, it should re-appear once too many devices have been connected to the power supply. Replace the power supply with one that covers the overall wattage requirements for all system devices
- Use only memory that has been recommended by the motherboard manufacturer to be compatible with the motherboard used
- Refer to the motherboard manual or contact the manufacturer to determine the type of memory recommended for the motherboard
- Configure the memory according to the mother manufacturer's recommendations
- Refer to the motherboard manual or contact the manufacturer to determine the proper memory configuration
