This article provides instructions on how to identify the model of an ATI graphics card, which is important to know when:
- Verifying the compatibility of the graphics card and motherboard before purchasing / installing a graphics card. The motherboard manufacturer will commonly provide a list of compatible graphics cards by model number
- Determining whether the requirements of the graphics card are met by the system’s hardware, operating system and / or application. The model of the graphics card is required to find the requirements from AMD’s Products and Technologies page
- Obtaining the latest drivers for the graphics card. The model of the graphics card is required to obtain the latest drivers from AMD’s Graphics Drivers & Software page
- Completing an AMD warranty request form. The model of the graphics card must be provided in order to complete and successfully submit a warranty request
There are several methods for identifying the model of a graphics card:
The model of the graphics card can be found in one of two places:
- On the front side of the retail box
- In the example below, the box identifies the graphics card as an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro

- On the barcode sticker located on the back of the graphics board
- In the example below, the box identifies the graphics card as a X1650 AGP graphics card

- Note! AMD does not retail cards beyond the ATI Radeon™ HD 3000 series or higher (except for the Radeon™ HD 3870 PC & Mac Edition). How to identifying an ATI product in a Microsoft Windows® based operating system
The model of the graphics card can be found using several software inspection utilities
- Using either method below, open the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center
- Click on Start | Programs | ATI Catalyst™ Control Center
- Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center
- In Advance view
- Click on Information Center and then Graphics Hardware or
- Click on the Graphics pull-down menu, select Information Center and then Graphics Hardware

- Click on the Start or the Orb button
- Type in devmgmt.msc in the Run command or Search for Device Manger
- Double-click Display Adapters to expand
- The graphics card make and model will be listed
- Note! Video Controller (VGA Compatible) is shown when display drivers are not installed
